April Climate Conversations
with Naturalist and Author Ken Lassman
and Joy Ellsworth from Clement Waters.
This special program is an all day adventure created to help you reconnect to nature – even if you’re inside!
Register using the form below
The first part of the program will be led by Ken Lassman, author of a four-part blog post series for The Resilient Activist, “Inviting Nature To Your Home.”
Ken will discuss the patterns that have emerged for him for each month of the year, and provide ways that you might use to develop “season-watching” as a way to connect your life and your place to this place. You’ll explore the patterns of life that have continuously unfolded and renewed each year in this area since the last ice age.
In this time of changing weather patterns, it is important to become aware of these cycles so you know what is changing and how. Ken is a 5th generation native of northeast Kansas who has been purposefully observing the cycles of the seasons since the early 1980s. His book, Wild Douglas County, is available for purchase online.
After the lunch break, the program will continue with a virtual nature walk at Clement Waters, the delightful urban oasis near Kansas City’s Swope Park. Joy Ellsworth, co-founder and president of Clement Waters will lead us through recording her nature meander at this embodied nature sanctuary. Her video will be uploaded after the event and be available online.

Experiencing Climate Grief?
Exformation is one of the tools of InterPlay.
In a society where information is constantly swirling around us, exformation invites us to release and rid ourselves of that which no longer serves us. Exformation is an embodied expression of release. Shaking, crying, and singing are all exformative.
Join Breathing Room KC‘s Beth Sarver
to experience resilience tools for your climate anxiety and more.
In this session, we will practice exforming our grief through talking, drawing, and big body movements. Join our zoom call from a place with room to move!
The great thing about exploring movement in this way is that you can always turn off your video and just have the moving experience for yourself in the privacy of your own home.
Join our call with ready access to paper and drawing supplies of any kind. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me directly.
Register here to receive the Zoom link in your confirmation email.

- The history of the property and the remediation process
- How this devastated parcel of land was revitalized to support pollinators while providing a delightful neighborhood pocket park for the public

Join us for a special Climate Conversations – an all-day exploration on the mindfulness of whiteness in America.
Many of us who would check off the “White American” box in the racial categories section of the census have never had to intentionally explore what it means to be white in America. So in our racialized culture, white people are racial beings moving through life with very limited racial literacy. Mindfulness can help empower us all by expanding our racial perspective, helping us make more informed decisions that are in closer alignment with our deepest values, and changing our relationship to whiteness in service to the greater good. Through experiential exercises, guided meditations, and group discussion, we will mindfully explore:
- the social construction of race and associated concepts
- the history of racism in America
- implicit bias and colorblind racism
- the ongoing cultural, social and interpersonal effects of racism on human relationships, institutions/organizations, systems and the environment
- strategies for breaking free from toxic socialization and connecting with the true nature of our histories, stories, and hearts
- ways we can personally help build a more just and sustainable society
If by reading this class description you notice some strong feelings arising, know you are not alone – we invite you to adopt “curiosity mind” and take this opportunity to explore the reactivity that arises in a protected space with compassion, courage and presence. All experience levels in racial justice work and mindfulness meditation are welcome to attend. Although this program is suitable for the general public, up to 6 CEs are available for KS & MO licensed mental health professionals. Register Here

Healing Through Grief
online with
Robin Goff, Spiritual Leader of the
Unity Light Center, Baldwin City, Kansas
Saturday 10/17/20 10 am-noon Central Daylight Time
This event occurred in the past – listen to the audio file of this inspiring program!
Free event – Love offerings for The Light Center are welcome.
Many people feel that a vast sea of grief is surrounding us now.
Do you feel heartache over the environment and the climate crisis? Do you carry a sense of sorrow when you think about social justice issues? Have you experienced a personal loss?
It is so key for all of us to keep our hearts open so the Love can flow in and through us as we navigate some difficult times. It is our intention to create a safe container for this event so that participants can comfortably begin to clear some of these heartfelt emotions and can inspire each other to keep walking through challenging times.
Even though we’ll be meeting on Zoom, we invite you to set your own sacred space for this time together. Suggestions: nature. candles, flowers, icons, crystals, photos of ones you have lost – whatever is meaningful for you.
Robin earned a BS in Nursing from Duke University and a Master of Arts in Values from the San Francisco Theological Seminary. She spent 10 years as a hospice chaplain & KC Hospice Stress Management Consultant. Robin is a Healing Touch Instructor and has been the Founder/Spiritual Leader of The Light Center for the past 25 years.
